Soma Midwest Film Fest

The Soma Midwest Film Fest, presented by the UNL Dance Alumni Endowment, is a unique platform for Midwest filmmakers and beyond to showcase their work to a broader audience. This film fest will be presented virtually via Zoom on April 12th, 2025, at 2 pm and 7 pm CST.

This virtual event celebrates filmmakers who emphasize the body and its significance in conveying meaning, as "soma" translates to "body" in Greek. While we prioritize submissions from Nebraska or Midwest-affiliated filmmakers, we also welcome participation from the wider filmography community.

The Soma Film Fest is dedicated to inclusion and diversity. It invites short films of up to 10 minutes focusing on the body and movement on screen. These films should explore broader themes of identity, challenge conventions, venture into new territories, and push past perceived limitations. Our purpose is to honor the industrious, persevering spirit of the land and people who have called the Midwest home.

We are excited to host our film festival virtually, which creates an inclusive and equitable viewing environment. This decision allows us to curate a highly selective experience, as all submissions undergo a review process.

We look forward to fostering a community of cinephiles in the Midwest and beyond. Our goal is to continue evolving and expanding, making the Soma Midwest Film Fest a supportive resource for both emerging and established filmmakers from Nebraska and beyond.
